Global Mitigation of Non-CO2 Greenhouse Gases

Global Mitigation of Non-CO2 Greenhouse Gases, 2010-2030: Industrial Processes

Man working in an aluminum plant. The industrial processes sector consists of industries that emit fluorinated gases, including refrigeration and air conditioning, aerosol, solvents, fire retardants, magnesium production, some electronics manufacturing, and electric power systems. This sector also includes nitric and adipic acid production, which emits nitrous oxide (N2O).

A large solar array.Non-CO2 greenhouse gas emissions from these sectors account for approximately 19% of projected 2030 global non-CO2 emissions, or approximately 2,478 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO2e). Assuming full implementation of current technology, the global abatement potential for the industrial processes sector is projected to be 1,597 MtCO2e in 2030.
