New Homes Certification System

Certification System for WaterSense Labeled New Homes

EPA requires all products bearing the WaterSense label to be independently certified. This certification provides consumers with confidence in both the water efficiency and performance of WaterSense labeled products.

The WaterSense New Home Certification System (27 pg, 520K, About PDF) is meant to supplement the WaterSense Program Guidelines and specifically outlines the process for certification and labeling of new homes in compliance with the WaterSense New Home Specification, including the general procedures for builders to apply for and receive of the WaterSense label certificate for new homes. The certification system also describes the general application procedures and requirements for those parties involved in training, home inspection, certification, and issuance of the WaterSense label.

Program Administrator

EPA has opened up the application process for all organizations interested in providing administration services for the WaterSense new homes program. Any program administrator meeting the final application and approval criteria outlined in the WaterSense New Home Certification System can apply at any time.

To apply, please submit an application letter to the WaterSense Helpline (watersense@epa.gov), as described in the WaterSense New Home Certification System (27 pg, 520K, About PDF).

Certification Provider

WaterSense is partnering with organizations that commit to hire or contract with inspectors, train inspectors, oversee new home inspections, and issue certification decisions for inspected homes for the WaterSense program.
