Recent TRI.NET Updates

December 2015

DATA UPDATES

The 2014 National Analysis data (with TRI reported data as of October 21, 2015) are now available. New datasets can be installed by using the updater feature of TRI.NET.

  • Known bug when downloading datasets 'TRI 2000-2013_Dioxins_Grams_NA2013 and all datasets ending with NA2012.' These datasets may not download correctly and you may receive a non-fatal error message. This bug likely will not be corrected.
  • Known bug when linking to a Demographic Report from the right click pop-up menu from query results which contain a TRIF ID. Workaround – The same pop-up menu contains a link to an Enforcement Report. The last section of the Enforcement report is the Demographic Profile around the facility at a 1, 3, or 5 mile radius.

    DATA UPDATES

    • The 2013 National Analysis data (with TRI reported data as of November 2014) are now available. New datasets can be installed by using the updater feature of TRI.NET.
      • Known bug when downloading dataset 'TRI 2000-2013_Dioxins_Grams_NA2013.FDB.' The latest Dioxin (Grams) dataset may not download correctly and you may receive a non-fatal error message. This bug likely will not be corrected. All data within this specific data set are also within the non-Dioxin specific datasets in units of pounds.
    • The grouping variables "Tract" (Census tract code) and "Metro Area" (Census Metropolitan Statistical Area) have been updated to include facilities first reporting to the TRI since 2009. Previously these variables omitted facilities who first reported to the TRI between 2009 and 2012.

    SOFTWARE UPDATE

    • A software update is now available. This software can be installed by using the updater feature of TRI.NET. This update is required to use new mapping capabilities.
    • When mapping facilities by either clicking on the icon with a large "G" or by pressing the F9 key several new features are available.
      • New base maps are available to include both a standard street view plus a satellite view with street name.
      • A home option has been added to return the map to the original center and zoom level as when initially displayed.
      • A previous bug has been corrected, which now allows display of numbers on the map pins. These numbers correspond with numbers on the list of facilities to the right of the map.
      • A data table is now provided below the map containing the same information as available in the map pop-ups.
      • Presentation of demographic data is no longer displayed directly on the map. It is now provided in two location. First in a pop-up when clicking on a map pin. Second, from the table below the map by toggling the twisty on the left side of a row. The area corresponding to the demographic pie charts may still be displayed on the map by clicking on either the 1 Mile or 3 Mile buffer links directly below the map.
      • A bug omitting the key for the income demographic chart has been corrected.

    August 2014

    DATA UPDATES

    • Updated datasets (as of March 2014) are now available for Reporting Year 2012. They can be installed by using the updater feature of TRI.NET.
      • All data variables within the "Hazard" folder have been updated using the RSEI 2010 tox-weights.
      • Some descriptive text has been updated. This text is available by right clicking any column header in a results table and selecting the "What's this" option.
      • Older datasets are no longer available with TRI.Net Auto Updater. Most datasets previously installed, however should still be compatible with the latest software updates.

    Known Bugs

    • The scale for income distribution is still missing. (see February 2014 below)
    • When mapping a group of facilities from both the southern and northern hemispheres, the browser may crash or become unresponsive.

    DATA UPDATES

    • The 2012 National Analysis data (as of November 2013) are now available. They can be installed by using the updater feature of TRI.NET.

    SOFTWARE UPDATE

    • A software update is now available. This software can be installed by using the updater feature of TRI.NET. This update is required to be compatible with the latest data.
    • A new set of filters and a new grouping variable has been added to work with Large Aquatic Ecosystems. These filters are predefined sets of HUC codes.
      The Pacific Island LAE was inadvertently omitted from this group. It is recommended users filter on the corresponding 3 appropriate geography areas as a work-a-round.
    • A new process is being used to generate the Tribal grouping variable. This is the same underlying process used in TRI Explorer at this time.
    • A subset of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) data reported to EPA has been added to TRI.Net. This data includes the GHG ID number and their GHG Emissions (in metric tons CO2e) only for facilities also identified with a corresponding TRIFID. Two new grouping variables, a new data variable, and a new filter (within the Facility folder) have been added to work with this data. In order to mesh the datasets, a "new' chemical was added – "CO2 Equivalent." When working with TRI quantities and counts, this "new" chemical never enters any of the calculations.
      *** Users of GHG data need to be aware that there is a one to many relationship between some GHG IDs and TRIFIDs. GHG emissions could be double or tripled counted unless the analyst accounts for these situations. A grouping variable has been added which flags these occurances. ***
    • The scale for income distribution is missing when using some of TRI.Net's mapping features. The key is: Pink = less $15K, Yellow = $15K-$25K, Light Blue = $25K-$50K, Dark Blue = $50K-$75K, and Green = $75K or more.
    • Note: The value-added data layers for Tract, Metro Area, and School District have not been updated. Facilities reporting to EPA for the first time since RY2009 may "disappear" in analyses using these value-added data layers.

    March 2013

    DATA UPDATE

    • Updated datasets (as of March 2013) are now available for Reporting Year 2011. They can be installed by using the updater feature of TRI.NET.
      • Data for the grouping variable "Tribal Miles" inadvertently is not included in the updated datasets.
      • All data variables within the "Hazard" folder have been updated using the the RSEI 2010 tox-weights.

    November 2012

    DATA UPDATE

    • The 2011 National Analysis data (as of November 2012) are now available. They can be installed by using the updater feature of TRI.NET.
    • A new chemical filter has been added which filters for chemicals which are both reportable to TRI and listed as hazardous substances under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) at 40 CFR 302.4.
    • Nomenclature used in the Tribal grouping variable now uses Tribal Names as published in the CFR.
    • Both the Tribal variable and the Watershed variable have been updated for all TRI facilities which have acceptable spatial data in EPA's Facility Registry System (FRS) as of October 2011.
    • Note: The value-added data layers for Tract, Metro Area, and School District have not been updated. Facilities reporting to EPA for the first time since RY2009 may "disappear" in analyses using these value-added data layers.

    SOFTWARE UPDATE

    • The current software update as of November 2012 (version 1.2.2 ) is now available. This software can be installed by using the updater feature of TRI.NET.
