Recovery Potential Screening

What You Can Do in the Recovery Potential Screening Website

This is primarily a website to help technical users compare watersheds in order to answer environmental questions about watersheds and water quality issues, aid decisions and plan strategies. Helping restore and protect our nation’s waters, however, involves a variety of technical and non-technical partners – from scientific specialists to average citizens who care about their communities and watersheds. Even if you are not a technical person, you may be interested in some of the information offered here. Depending on your own specific interests and abilities, you may wish to do the following at this website:

  • Learn why RPS was developed by visiting the Learn About RPS page for general information and the What EPA is Doing page for the specifics of how EPA supports RPS for states, tribes, local communities and others;
  • Study the RPS watershed indicators and what they mean to the health, future prospects and value of a watershed. Find general information in the RPS Indicators Overview section of this website;
  • Learn to use an RPS Tool hands-on if you are technically inclined, or by reading the RPS Tool User Manual and other user support documents if you prefer to study a method first;
  • Download a watershed tool for your whole state -- select your state from the Statewide RPS Tools download page
  • Do some comparative watershed screenings using either a statewide or custom-made tool; select indicators from your custom-made tool, run screenings, make map, graph and table products;
  • Use your findings – read the RPS Methodology Step 7 to find out how to compare watershed results, think about how they help your plans and decisions, or just serve your curiosity about watershed differences;
  • Provide feedback on anything about RPS if you Contact Us. Please tell us about your uses of RPS and your impressions or suggestions.
