Red Hill

Tank Infrastructure Improvements

Preventing future releases of fuel from the tanks at Red Hill is a key objective of the Administrative Order on Consent (AOC). The AOC requires the Navy to evaluate and improve procedures and practices to maintain the integrity of the tanks, evaluate and implement structural upgrades to the tanks, and to use the best technology available to detect leaks. The AOC also requires the Navy to determine the overall risk the facility poses to the surrounding environment.

During the week of May 8, 2016, the Parties to the AOC met with representatives from the Honolulu Board of Water Supply (HBWS), the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Commission on Water Resources Management and the United States Geological Survey to discuss progress implementing the AOC and gather input from these external subject matter experts. The links below provide documentation on the progress being made to implement this work.
