Lenwood/High Desert Estates Sewer Project
The Lenwood/ High Desert Estates Project is designed to provide sewer service in the unincorporated community of Lenwood and upgrade the existing sewage collection system in the High Desert Estates mobile home park. Both areas are on the outskirts of Barstow, California. EPA proposes to assist the project with grant funds made available through a special appropriation to the City of Barstow for these purposes (P.L. 105-276). Additional funding will come through a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant and loan under the Rural Utilities Service Water and Waste Disposal Program.
Within the Lenwood community, the proposed project will construct a sewage collection system serving a total of 798 parcels to correct current problems caused by poor percolation of septic leachate. The sewage will tie into the City of Barstow collection and treatment facilities. In High Desert Estates a new gravity flow sewer line will replace the existing but non-functioning wet-well, force-main system, which is already connected to the City of Barstow facilities. Duration of project construction is expected to be four months.
EPA, in cooperation with the County of San Bernardino, has prepared an Environmental Assessment/ Initial Study (EA/IS) for the proposed Project and has drafted a Finding of No Significant Impact. Written comments on the proposal and environmental documents may be submitted through February 27, 2001 to:
