Ozone Layer Protection

Ozone Layer Protection

Welcome to EPA's ozone layer protection web area. The ozone layer is Earth’s “sunscreen” – protecting living things from too much ultraviolet radiation. The emission of ozone depleting substances has been damaging the ozone layer. But through domestic and international action, the ozone layer is healing and should fully recover by about 2065.  On this web area you'll find information about the science of ozone depletion, EPA's regulatory approach to protecting the ozone layer, EPA-approved alternatives to ozone depleting substances, and sun safety.

*This web page deals with stratospheric ozone. If you are looking for information on ground level ozone click here.
