Endangered Species: Save Our Species Information - Whooping Crane

The whooping crane is the tallest bird in North America and has a wing span of 7 feet. Its call or "whoop" sounds like a trumpet. In the summer, it lives in Canada. However, it flies 2,600 miles south to wetlands on the coast of Texas for the winter. The crane is losing its winter nesting area because many of the wetlands have been drained.
