C-FERST Issue Profile: Stationary Sources

Stationary sources of air pollution, including factories, refineries, boilers, and power plants, can emit a variety of air pollutants. The Clean Air Act directs EPA to control these emissions by developing and implementing:

  • National Emissions Standards for hazardous air pollutants;
  • New Source Performance Standards and Emission Guidelines for the six "criteria" air pollutants regulated by EPA, as well as for other air pollutants; and
  • National standards or guidelines for ozone-forming volatile organic compounds from consumer and commercial products
