As part of the National Response System, EPA's Pacific Southwest Office routinely responds to a wide range of oil and hazardous substance releases and other environmental emergencies.

Our Emergency Response Program has staff on call 24 hours a day to respond to environmental disasters, hazardous materials releases, and inland oil spills that threaten human health and/or the environment. Working closely with federal, state, tribal, and local response organizations, we also regularly conduct drills and exercises to make sure the region has adequately prepared and planned for major incidents.

Our regional office also works with facilities to prevent chemical releases and oil spills and to ensure that adequate information and planning are maintained to assist first responders.

EPA encourages all residents of the Pacific Southwest to develop a household plan and be prepared for emergencies.
