Local Water Woes, No More? Advancing Safe Drinking Water Technology (August 2014)
A group of former Berkeley student P3 Award winners now own a company called SimpleWater. SimpleWater recently received a Phase I SBIR contract from EPA and aims to commercialize their Arsenic removal technology and bring their track record of success in Bangladesh and India to help Americans who may be at risk from arsenic exposure in their drinking water.

Lucid Provides Energy Reduction Software to D.C. Government (August 2014)
Earlier this year, Lucid, a 2014 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Small Business Innovation Research award recipient, announced that the District of Columbia government was using Lucid’s BuildingOS® software in order to reach an energy reduction target of 20 percent in 20 months.

EPA Supporting Small Businesses by Advancing Sustainable and Innovative Products and Research/Twenty-one Businesses Receiving Funding to Strengthen the Economy and the Environment (July 2014)
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that 21 small businesses in 14 states are receiving funding from the EPA to develop and commercialize innovative, sustainable technologies to address current environmental issues . The agency’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program is providing $2 million in funds to advance these innovative products and research.

NanoMech, US EPA SBIR Award Recipient: 2014 Tibbetts Award Winner (June 2014)
NanoMech, a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) award recipient in 2004 and 2005, received the 2014 Tibbetts Award for its coating technology, which can improve manufacturing processes by extending the life of tools used in automotive and aerospace industries.

Ecovative, US EPA SBIR Award Recipient: Innovation with Mushroom Insulation (May 2014)
US EPA Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award recipient Ecovative, was recently highlighted for its work using mushroom roots, mycelium, to create insulation for buildings.

U.S. EPA SBIR Company Receives Honor as a Top Ten Innovative Company for Energy by Fast Company Magazine (February 2014)
Recently reported in Fast Company Magazine, Okeanos Technologies, a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program award recipient, is one of the 2014’s top 10 innovative companies for energy.

U.S. EPA SBIR Company NEI Corporation: Self-Healing Coating Receives Patent (February 2014)
NEI Corporation, a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program award recipient, has received a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trade Office for their self-healing, corrosion protection coating technology.

ACTA Technology Presents EPA with Copy of their Patent (February 2014)
EPA Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) awardee ACTA Technology presented Dr. James H. Johnson, Director of EPA's National Center for Environmental Research, and April Richards, Program Manager of EPA's SBIR Program, with a copy of their "Red Ribbon" patent. The presentation was a gesture of gratitude for the EPA SBIR Phase I contract awarded to ACTA in 2011, which supported the successful development of their patented technology.

Faraday Technology, a 2011 Environmental Protection Agency Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) recipient, was recently announced as a winner of the 2013 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards.

NanoMech’s TuffTek® coating receives prestigious R&D 100 Award (July 2013)
Nanomech, an EPA Small Business Innovative Research Program (SBIR) award recipient, has received R&D Magazine’s R&D 100 Award for its Tuff Tek coating technology for cutting tool manufacture.

Materials Science 101: Molding Mushrooms (June 2013)
Your new TV or fancy bottle of wine came in a cardboard box that can be recycled, but thanks to a small, eco-friendly business, those white packing pieces that cushion and protect consumer goods inside boxes could go a step further in the product life cycle. Ecovative, located in New York, wants you to throw the packaging in your compost pile.

EPA SBIR Awardees, Orono and Ecovative receive Tibbetts Awards at the White House (June 2013)
Two of EPA's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program awardees received Tibbets Awards at the White House. Orono Spectral Solutions and Ecovative Design were among the 21 recipients of this year’s Tibbets Awards. This prestigious award is presented to small businesses and individuals that are exemplary in their work and continue to illustrate the mission and goals of the SBIR and Small Business Technology Transfers programs.

Colorado Senator Mark Udall Says Gevo is helping to solve US Renewable Energy Challenges (January 2013)
Senator Mark Udall, toured the Gevo facility in Englewood CO last month, and met with Gevo CEO Patrick Gruber, Ph.D. to see Gevo’s R&D as a provider of renewable chemicals and biofuels.

Faraday Inc. Develops New Durable Trivalent Plating Process (January 2013)
Faraday Technology Inc., an EPA 2011 SBIR winner, has developed a new trivalent chromium plating process. This new process avoids the use of toxic hexavalent chromium.
