February 2014 - NEI Corporation, a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program award recipient, has received a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trade Office for their self-healing, corrosion protection coating technology.

NEI Corporation received funding from the U.S. EPA SBIR Program for their coating technology in 2013. These corrosion-resistant coatings could allow utility companies and industries to consider the use of more corrosive alternate water and wastewater sources for non-potable application, such as industrial cooling, reducing the stress on fresh water sources. These  thin protective coatings, when applied to the inside of heat exchanger tubes, provided corrosion protection, while maintaining the desirable heat transfer properties.

The U.S. EPA SBIR program currently funds up to $100,000 for Phase I proposals and $300,000, if selected for Phase II for continued development and commercialization of the technology.
