Nitrogen Dioxide Designations

2010 Nitrogen Dioxide Standards - Tribal Recommendations and EPA Responses

EPA's Final Designations

All areas have been designated as unclassifiable/attainment.

Tribal Areas Designated under the 2010 Air Quality Standards

Some tribes submitted recommendations to EPA for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) designations in 2011. Those recommendations and EPA's responses are presented below.

On January 20, 2012, EPA designated all areas of the country as “unclassifiable/attainment” for the 2010 NO2 NAAQS. The available air quality data show that all monitored areas in the country meet the 2010 NO2 NAAQS for 2008-2010. No state or tribe recommended an area be designated “nonattainment.”

State information is available on the State Recommendations page.

The National Tribal Environmental CouncilExit and that Tribal Council's workgroup, The National Designation and Implementation Work Group, have been addressing tribal issues with respect to the designation process.

Recommendation Documents

The documents listed below are tribes' responses to EPA's request for recommendations on the designation of areas for the NO2 standard. These responses are provided here in PDF format for INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY and do not represent EPA's views on the appropriateness or adequacy of a tribe's recommendations.

The quality of these PDF files are quite variable, and are the result of the quality of the documents provided by the tribes.
