Additional Chemistry Resources
For additional information on the properties of the chemicals listed in Selected Analytical Methods for Environmental Remediation and Recovery (SAM), Toxicology Data Network (TOXNET), a cluster of databases on toxicology, hazardous chemicals and related areas maintained by the National Library of Medicine, is an excellent resource. Additional resources include:
- Syracuse Research Corporation (SRC) Databases Exit contain information pertaining to chemical structures, names, physical properties and persistence. PHYSPROP and CHEMFATE are sponsored by EPA.
- The International Programme on Chemical Safety's INCHEM Exit contains both chemical and toxicity information.
- The Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances (RTECS) database can be accessed via the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) website for toxicity information.
- EPA’s Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) contains toxicity information (searchable on TOXNET).
- EPA’s Water Contaminant Information Tool (WCIT) can be accessed by registered users.
- Forensic Science Communications is published by the Laboratory Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
- The European Commission's Joint Research Centre / Institute for Health & Consumer Protection Exit contains information regarding European Directive 67/548/EEC and Annex V.
- The Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry (ATSDR) Toxic Substances Portal provides Toxicological Profiles.
Additional research on chemical contaminants is ongoing within EPA. Databases to manage this information are currently under development.
