Global Mitigation of Non-CO2 Greenhouse Gases

Global Mitigation of Non-CO2 Greenhouse Gases, 2010-2030: Agriculture

Farmers working in a rice paddy. The agriculture sector includes methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from livestock, rice cultivation, and croplands. Combined, these three sectors account for 31% of projected 2030 global non-CO2 emissions, or approximately 3,957 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO2e). Assuming full implementation of current technology, the global abatement potential for the energy sector is projected to be 525 MtCO2e in 2030.
