White Lake Tannery Bay Remediation Project

Using $2.5 million in Great Lakes Restoration Initiative funds, EPA removed contaminated sediment along the Tannery Bay shoreline in White Lake in a project that ran from August to December 2013.

The project:
  • Removed contaminated sediment from the nearshore area.
  • Restored shoreline.
  • Created opportunity for residential and recreational development.
  • Supported improvement of aesthetics.

The goal of the project was to complete the last required cleanup step for removal of the remaining Beneficial Use Impairments.

The project was completed by November 2013, leading the way for further development of the site.
