Particulate Matter (PM) Pollution

Implementation of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for Fine Particulate Matter (PM2.5): State Implementation Plan (SIP) Requirements

Rule Summary

This rule establishes planning requirements for states with areas that do not meet the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for fine particle pollution. These states must develop plans that demonstrate how they will meet the standards. This rule allows states to rely on common-sense strategies to implement particle pollution standards, and it also responds to a January 2013 court decision on EPA’s previous rules implementing the fine particle pollution standards.
