Green Power Partnership Renewable Generation Vintage Requirements

The green power produced by renewable generators is identified by the year in which the electricity was generated and delivered to the grid.

For example, the renewable energy certificates (RECs) associated with the renewable generation of electricity by a wind facility during the 2010 calendar year are considered to be 2010 vintage RECs.

EPA requires that Green Power Partners use green power products generated within the current vintage year, up to six months prior to the current year, or up to three months after that current vintage year. Learn more about GPP's Partnership Requirements.

A Partner purchasing green power for eligibility in the Green Power Partnership in 2015 may select qualifying green power generated at any point in the 21-month period.

Future RECs

Future REC commitments are counted in the year they are actually generated, with the same limited vintage flexibility offered to any other REC product. This means they may be claimed to meet Partnership requirements if they are generated in the current year, in the last six months of the prior year, or the first three months of the following year.
