Worldwide, nearly 2 billion metric tons of emissions of non-CO2 greenhouse gases (in CO2-equivalent) can be reduced profitably or at no cost.
Oil and natural gas systems are one of the leading emitters of methane. Globally, approximately 35% of these emissions could be reduced profitably or at no cost.
Hydrofluorocarbons, emitted from refrigeration & air conditioning equipment, is a potent greenhouse gas. Approximately 30% of these emissions could be reduced profitably or at no cost.
Methane emissions from decomposing waste in landfills can be reduced by up to 61% by implementing emissions reduction measures.

Global Mitigation of Non-CO2 Greenhouse Gases, 2010-2030

Non-carbon dioxide (CO₂) greenhouse gases, such as methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated greenhouse gases, are significant contributors to climate change. In some cases, reducing non-CO₂ emissions can have a more rapid effect on the climate and be more cost-effective than reducing CO₂ emissions.

The EPA technical report Global Mitigation of Non-CO₂ Greenhouse Gases: 2010–2030 provides a comprehensive global economic analysis on the costs of technologies to reduce these gases, and the potential to reduce them by sector and region.
