Cincinnati is home to some of the world’s leading water researchers and one of the largest federal water research facilities in the nation. Under the Federal Technology Transfer Act (FTTA), EPA can share these resources with the private sector by:
- licensing federally-developed technologies, and
- assisting in the development and testing of non-EPA technologies.

Start a Research Partnership
If you are developing a new water technology, you can access EPA researchers and facilities through a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA). Under these agreements, EPA scientists can help co-develop or test your technology.
If you would like to collaborate with EPA researchers in Cincinnati on water technology research, submit your technology for consideration using the link below, and we'll get back to you with ways EPA can help you develop it.
License a Technology
EPA scientists are at the forefront of water research, always working on new technologies for cleaner water. Under the FTTA, these technologies are available for licensing by private companies.
If you are interested in licensing a technology, EPA staff in Cincinnati are available to set up meetings between potential partners and EPA researchers, and to help potential partners navigate the licensing process.

Other Collaborations
The US Small Business Administration (SBA) was instrumental in the development of the Cincinnati water cluster, and we continue to work with SBA on topics of mutual interest. We also work with the US Commercial Service, Department of Commerce (USCS) to promote export of environmental technologies. This allows us to connect with even more potential partners in developing water technologies.
