Waste tires are recyclable. In Arizona, each county provides a waste tire
collection site (WTCS) that accepts tires from residents of that county.
Every County resident may take up to five waste tires, each year, to the
county's approved WTCS at no cost. For additional information, consult
the Directory
of Arizona Waste Tire Collection Sites and Waste Tire Processing Facilities
California
CalRecycle (California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery), tire management page
The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery is mandated to regulate and manage waste tires within the state
of California. The California legislature recognized the need for waste
tire management and passed the California Tire Recycling Act in 1989.
To further strengthen waste tire management, the legislature passed Senate
Bill (SB) 876 in 2000 to augment the California Tire Recycling Act.

Nevada
Nevada Division of Environmental
Protection, Bureau of Waste Management, Solid Waste Branch, Special Wastes
Tires are managed in Nevada as a special waste. Nevada developed a waste
tire management plan in 1994 and adopted regulations in Nevada Administrative
Code Chapter 444A.200 to 444A.470. The regulations establish a permit
requirement for waste tire management facilities, a registration requirement
for commercial waste tire haulers, and requirements for manifesting commercially
transported tires. See
Nevada's guidance documents and application forms.
For more information call the Nevada Recycling Hotline at 1-800-597-5865.
Hawaii
Hawaii Department of Health, Environmental Health Solid and Hazardous Waste Branch, Solid Waste Office
Because Hawaii state law prohibits disposal of whole used tires, used
tires must be disposed of properly. Residents of Hawaii may take used
tires to tire retailers/wholesalers as a first option. They are required
to accept used tires for recycling. Many will accept used motor vehicle
tires for free, without the need to purchase new ones. Residents may also
take tires to a local tire collector or recycler who is permitted by the
Hawaii Department of Health. These authorized tire collection and/or recycling
facilities usually charge a nominal fee. Check with County Solid Waste
Divisions or Recycling Offices to determine if they will accept used tires
at local transfer stations.
