Web Standard: Maps
Definitions
Maps may be:
- Interactive maps
- EPA’s GeoPlatform: The standard way to create interactive maps for an EPA Web page.
- Do not use Google maps or other commercial maps. (no licensing agreement to build new maps)

- Use of Leaflet
- Leaflet is an open-source and lightweight JavaScript library for mobile friendly interactive maps. This library is aimed for simple and performance oriented usage. See the Leaflet JavaScript Library page for more information on usage and benefits.
- EPA’s GeoPlatform: The standard way to create interactive maps for an EPA Web page.
- Static map image or image with clickable image map
- Static map image that may link to other web content.
- U.S. map of states or EPA regions will use the standard U.S. National Maps (formerly called ‘Where You Live’)
- Clickable maps on Drupal-delivered pages must be responsive. Responsive image map
Content requirements
- Maps will have:
- A title, that includes the word “map”, located above the map in header tag <h2> – <h4>.
- The map itself
- Caption text, if needed for clarity, clickable to additional information (preferred)
- U.S. map of states or regions will use the standard U.S. National Maps (formerly called ‘Where You Live’)
