Climate Change and Nutrient Interaction

Climate change may alter the impacts that nutrients have on land and water. Researchers are using atmospheric monitoring, field measurements, and modeling to study the interactions between climate change and nutrients and how this interaction may negatively impact land and water.

Researchers are also identifying approaches and developing predictive tools for sustainable solutions to manage these impacts. One such tool under development involves national maps of water runoff and drainage from agricultural fields under different climate change scenarios in order to predict the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus entering nearby water resources.

The goal of this research is determining how to protect the environment and our natural resources from any negative effects of climate change and nutrient pollution.
