Managing and Transforming Waste Streams – A Tool for Communities

Contracts and Franchise Agreements for Waste Haulers

These examples and best practices relate to provisions that local governments can incorporate into their contract or franchise agreements with waste haulers (service providers).

They correspond to strategy #46 (Service Provider Contract and Franchise Agreement Incentives or Requirements) in the Planning Tool, and can be used by local governments interested in moving towards high diversion or zero waste or by local governments that already have a zero waste goal.

These zero waste case studies provide information on local government strategies and the results, advantages, and disadvantages of various municipal zero waste practices.
