2014

Quincy Smelter remedial actions are completed at the Torch Lake Superfund site. A nine-inch vegetative cover is placed over approximately six acres of stamp lands. MDEQ has been monitoring the parcel since September 2012.

2010

MDEQ (MDNRE at the time) releases an updated BUI Restoration guide for each of the BUIs in the Michigan Areas of Concern.

2007

An update to the RAP is published.


The first beneficial use impairment is removed.

2006

Cleanup is completed at the Torch Lake Superfund site. EPA finished the project nearly $3 million under budget, at a cost of $12.3 million. Much toxic waste is removed and approximately 800 acres of land are cleaned, cleared, graded, and covered with clean soil and vegetation.

1999

The Scales Creek “Moonscape” remedial project is completed. The focus of the project is to stabilize severely eroded stream banks. Top soil is applied, native grasses are planted, and a rock reef is constructed.

1987

The stage I Remedial Action Plan is published.
