Milwaukee, WI
EPA is working with Milwaukee to improve conditions along the 30th Street Greenway Corridor. The area has a high poverty rate, a large minority population and blood lead levels in children that are 3-10 times higher than the national average. In 2010, a flood resulted in $32 million in private property damage.
Priorities there include:
- mitigating surface flooding and basement backups
- improving water quality
- cleaning up brownfields as part of a longer term revitalization plan for the Harbor District that aims to create jobs, eliminate blight and improve public access to Lake Michigan
- improving energy efficiency in municipal facilities through a partnership with ENERGY STAR
