Turkey Creek Watershed
The Turkey Creek watershed is an 11,000 acre sub-watershed in coastal Mississippi. Many of the residents are descendants of the original settlers, who were emancipated slaves, and occupy two communities - Turkey Creek and North Gulfport.
The watershed is predominately forested, but includes some pasture/cropland and expanding urban areas. EPA will help the community prepare a watershed plan that aligns with its environmental and economic development priorities.
EPA will also work to expand the conversation between the community organizations, local officials, the Port Authority, private developers and others, with a goal of creating trust and a shared vision environmental and economic progress for Turkey Creek.
