2012

MDEQ publishes Stage II of the Remedial Action Plan.


The River Raisin Legacy Act project begins which aims to remove about 110,000 cubic yards of PCB-contaminated sediment.


The first beneficial use impairment is removed:

  • Degradation of aesthetics

2010

MDEQ releases an updated delisting guide for each of the BUIs in the Michigan Areas of Concern.

2009

MDEQ publishes a RAP update.

2006

An update to the RAP is published.

2005-2006

PCB paper sludge is excavated at Lagoon 1 and an area just west of that. The waste is properly disposed of, removing a direct contact hazard.

2004

MDEQ awardes the City of Monroe a Coastal Management Program grant to conduct a field assessment of all open waterways within the city.

2003-2004

MDEQ and EPA conduct a post-navigational dredging study that samples contaminated sediment. PCBs from the turning basin downstream is identified as the primary contamination “hot spot.”

2002

An update to the RAP is published.

1998

A river assessment is conducted that describes much of the geography, geology, and geomorphology of River Raisin. The report also includes management strategies.

1987

Stage I of the Remedial Action Plan (RAP) is published.
