We will examine the possible role of diet and obesity influences on asthma, and work that our Center is doing to unravel the relationships and find potential treatments.

Presentation Summary: We are surrounded by bacteria in our everyday lives. When are they harmful? Can they be helpful? What determines the difference? We we will explore the nature of bacterial environments in children with asthma, and what we have learned about these environments that might lessen the burden of asthma.

Presentation Title: “Immune Mechanisms Involved in Ambient Air Pollution Exposure”

Presentation Summary: Air pollution has been linked to about seven million deaths worldwide due to asthma, stroke, COPD, cardiovascular and other diseases. One of the central features of these diseases is inflammation and a dysregulated immune system. The developing immune system in children is particularly sensitive to the effects of air pollution.  Therefore we have studied how air pollution modulates the immune system using high dimensional immune cell studies and epigenetic mechanistic methods. We will show evidence for links between epigenetic, and immune changes and disease.
