Purpose:

Webinar: second of our STAR Grantee presentations: "Evaluating the Impact of Multiple Stressors on Common Loon Population Demographics - An Integrated Laboratory and Field Approach", by Dr. Michael Meyers (Wildlife and Forestry Research, Bureau of Science Services, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources)

Mike Meyer is a Research Scientist with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Bureau of Science Services, a position he has held since receiving a Ph.D. in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1989. Mike conducts statewide wildlife toxicology research projects including implementation of the Wisconsin Wildlife Biosentinel Program which evaluates wildlife contaminant exposure and health in statewide aquatic systems. A research emphasis has been an evaluation of the impact of mercury exposure on the Wisconsin wildlife, with a focus on the common loon population. The project has spanned 15 years, includes numerous collaborators, and has produced over 20 peer-reviewed publications. In 2002, Mike received an EPA STAR grant to support the population level evaluation of mercury exposure on loons, and today will present results from that grant within context of the larger study goals.
