Positive Effects of Proper Labeling
EPA evaluates pesticides to ensure that they will not have unreasonable adverse effects on humans, the environment, and non-target species when used in accordance with the label. Because they are generally designed to kill or otherwise adversely affect living organisms, pesticides may pose some risk to humans, animals, or the environment.
The pesticide label is the user's guide to applying pesticides in a way that minimizes risk and maximizes efficacy. Labels that are clear, accurate, consistent with EPA policy, and enforceable:
- Minimize the risk and occurrence of harmful effects on health and the environment.
- Support compliance and enforcement efforts.
- Conserve federal and state resources by avoiding costs associated with interpreting and correcting label deficiencies.
