Summary
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has developed a Proposed Remedial Action Plan (Proposed Plan), which outlines five options for addressing
asbestos contamination at the Site. EPA’s Preferred Alternative is identified in the Proposed Plan as Alternative WSS2: Capping. In proposing this option, EPA incorporates the work that has already been completed at the Site which includes covering the asbestos-containing wastes, soils, and reservoir sediments with geotextile, a minimum of 2 feet of clean material and 6 inches of topsoil and vegetation. In addition to capping, EPA’s preferred alternative also requires post-construction sampling, routine inspections, long term operations and maintenance, and land-use controls.
