Summary
The Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery (LNFH) is part of a complex of three national fish hatcheries called the Leavenworth Fisheries Complex. The other two hatcheries that comprise the complex are the Entiat National Fish Hatchery and the Winthrop National Fish Hatchery.
The Entiat and Winthrop Hatcheries are currently authorized to discharge under the EPA’s NPDES General Permit for Federal Aquaculture Facilities and Aquaculture Facilities Located in Indian Country within the Boundaries of the State of Washington (EPA Washington Hatchery GP).
However, the LNFH will receive an individual NPDES permit due to more stringent requirements on temperature and total phosphorus based on the 2009 Wenatchee River Watershed Dissolved Oxygen and pH Total Maximum Daily Load Water Quality Improvement Report and the January 2012 Water Quality Standards for Surface Waters of the State of Washington [Chapter 143-201A WAC].
Tentative Determination
EPA's Region 10 office has tentatively determined to issue a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit to the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery.
