EPA Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Georgia Institute of Technology

ATLANTA – On Monday August 1, 2016, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) entered into a partnership with Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) to enhance environmental policy work, and offer internship opportunities for students interested in environmental careers.

EPA Regional Resource Conservation and Restoration Division Director, G. Alan Farmer, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Georgia Tech President, Dr. G.P. “Bud” Peterson, formalizing the relationship. The signing was held on the campus of Georgia Tech.

“Institutions like Georgia Tech are an incredible asset, because of the skilled resources at their disposal,” said Regional Administrator Heather McTeer Toney. “The signing of this MOU further strengthens educational and environmental ties and provides a forum for discussing emerging environmental issues and interest in environmental careers with future leaders.”

“Georgia Tech has had a fruitful relationship with the EPA which has expressed its confidence in the quality of our work by providing significant research funds,” said G.P. “Bud” Peterson, President of the Georgia Institute of Technology. “This Memorandum further strengthens the collaborative ties between Georgia Tech and the EPA and has the potential to serve as a powerful impetus for enhancing research, knowledge exchange, stakeholder engagement, career development, and leadership in environmental sciences, engineering, and policy research.”

Through this MOU the partners express their intention to strengthen the ties between the EPA and Georgia Tech with the aim to enhance research, knowledge exchange, stakeholder engagement, career development, and leadership in environmental sciences and engineering, and policy research. This MOU is also intended to help highlight research on climate change at Georgia Tech and their Distribution of “Research Horizons,” and to help EPA attract a workforce that is as diverse as the public we serve.

The Ivan Allen College’s School of Public Policy will manage the implementation of the Memorandum on behalf of Georgia Tech.
