EPA Seeks Comments on West Virginia Impaired Waters List
PHILADELPHIA (June 2, 2016) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced it has completed its review and taken action on the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s (WVDEP) 2014 Clean Water Act Section 303(d) list of impaired waters.
EPA has partially approved the list of 1,157 waterways designated as impaired by the State as not meeting West Virginia’s current water quality standards for protecting aquatic life, and is also proposing to add an additional 61 waters in order to meet the requirements of the federal Clean Water Act.
EPA published a notice of the proposed additions in the Federal Register on June 2, which begins a 30-day public comment period. EPA will review all of the comments and address them as appropriate in preparing the final list.
