EPA Extends Comment Period for Proposed Eastern Long Island Sound Dredged Material Disposal Site
BOSTON - EPA is extending the public comment period on the proposal to designate a dredged material disposal site to serve the eastern Long Island Sound region. The Eastern Long Island Sound Disposal Site (ELDS) would be located offshore from New London, Connecticut, and would be available for the disposal of dredged material from harbors and navigation channels in eastern Long Island Sound in the states of Connecticut and New York.
The public comment period will now remain open until July 18, 2016.
The proposal to establish a dredged material disposal site in Eastern Long Island Sound is described in a draft rule and Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement that was released for public review and comment on April 27, 2016. The Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (DSEIS) recommends designating the Eastern Long Island Sound Disposal Site as the preferred alternative from the range of options considered.
