Environmental Justice Small Grants Now Available

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Lenexa, Kan., Nov. 9, 2016) - EPA is seeking Environmental Justice Small Grant applications to support projects that address local environmental and public health issues within affected communities.
These grants are available to Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska organizations through the EPA Region 7 Office in Lenexa, Kan.
The Environmental Justice Small Grants Program is designed to help communities understand and address their exposure to multiple environmental harms and risks. The purpose of this grant program is to support communities dealing with environmental justice concerns through projects designed to empower and educate these communities to better understand environmental and public health issues and to identify ways to address these issues at the local level. EPA encourages applying organizations to have a direct connection to the vulnerable, affected community impacted by environmental harms and risks.
Application packages must be postmarked by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017. Guidance outlining the eligibility, purposes, goals, and general procedures for application and award is available online, or by contacting EPA Region 7 toll-free at 1-800-223-0425.
Environmental Justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations and policies.
