2013

Two beneficial use impairments are removed after meeting their respective delisting criteria.

2012

A Great Lakes Legacy Act project is completed in which approximately 43,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediment were removed from the Division Street Outfall. A 60-acre cap is placed over the area to contain any remaining pollution. Nearshore habitat restoration is also completed.


A biological assessment is completed that addresss the biological integrity of the AOC.

2011

US ACE dredges the navigational channel of Muskegon Lake. The area is sampled, and based on results.

The first BUI is removed.

MDEQ releases the Stage 2 Remedial Action Plan

2010

MDEQ (MDNRE at the time) releases an updated BUI Restoration guide for each of the BUIs in the Michigan Areas of Concern.

2008

The MLWP Habitat Committee publishes a plan to accelerate the removal of BUIs and restore habitat.


MDEQ issues updated Guidance for Delisting Michigan’s Great Lakes Areas of Concern.

2006

The Ruddiman Creek Legacy Act cleanup iss completed in which 90,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediment are removed.

2004

A sediment survey is conducted in Muskegon Lake tributaries that assesses contamination concerns.


The Muskegon Lake Watershed Partnership develops a project to involve stakeholders in the creation of numerous restoration targets habitat, water quality and natural resource issues.

2002

A RAP update is published that focuses largely on completed actions.

1994

A RAP update is published that details progress since the original remedial action plan was published.

1987

Stage I of the Muskegon Lake RAP is created.
