140,000 pounds of contaminated sediment is removed which marks the completion of a second Great Lakes Legacy Act project in the AOC. |
2009 |
The Kinnickinnic River Legacy Act project begins and is completed by the end of the year. About 167,000 lbs of contaminated sediment is removed, which contained mostly PCBs and PAHs. |
2008 |
Delisting targets for each of the BUIs in the Area of Concern are published.

WDNR completes a sediment remediation study at Estabrook Impoundment, which concludes that it contributes the greatest mass loading of PCBs into the Milwaukee River and Harbor. |
2003 |
The federal Beaches Environmental Assessment and Coastal Health Act of 2000 begin to be implemented. WDNR gives grants to communities to monitor beach water for elevated bacterial levels. |
2000-2001 |
Mercury Marine removes approximately 14,000 tons of contaminated sediment as part of the Cedar Creek remediation project. |
1999 |
A brief RAP update is published, which notes that progress has been made on 93 percent of the recommendations listed in the 1994 Remedial Action Plan.
