In November 2015 L'Anse Warden Electric Company (LWEC) submitted results from an emission test on the Boiler No. 1 exhaust duct to Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ). Boiler no. 1 was a coal-, oil- and gas-fired steam generating station until it converted to biomass.
