2014

Dredging, seawall and sediment remediation completed in Menekaunee Harbor in the fall of 2014.

2013

Sediment remediation at the Ansul arsenic site is scheduled for completion along with the first two phases of fish passage project.


Remediation of the WPSC coal tar site is completed, reducing levels of PAHs in the Menominee River. 


Results of the fisheries data roundup are published, which is critical in identifying specific restoration projects to be implemented. 

2012

A update to the second stage of the remedial action plan is published. 

2011

Stage II of the remedial action plan was published. 


WDNR and MDEQ published a habitat management and restoration plan for fish and wildlife populations. 


The first beneficial use impairment is removed, which allows recreational activity to resume in the river.

2010

MDEQ released an updated delisting guide for each of the BUIs in the Michigan Areas of Concern. 


Upgrades to the wastewater treatment plants in Marinette and Menominee greatly reduce pollution inflows into the AOC. There are currently no direct combined sewer overflows or sanitary sewer overflows in Menominee.

2005

EPA's Superfund program completes the discovery phase at the WSPC Marinette coal tar site. Instead of being added to the National Priorities List, it is named a Superfund Alternative Site. It will still essentially follow the Superfund process.

1998

A navigational dredging project is conducted by the city of Menominee to allow oceangoing vessels to access the lower part of the river.

1996

An update to the remedial action plan was released. 

1995

Paint sludge removal operations are completed along Green Bay, resulting in the excavation of more than 10 million pounds of hazardous waste.

An additional 20 million pounds of contaminated sediments are removed as part of an enforcement order issued to the Lloyd Flanders Furniture Company in Menominee.

1990

Stage I of the Lower Menominee RAP is published.
