Sediment removal and analysis

More than 230,000 cubic yards of arsenic impacted sediment was mechanically removed, treated, and disposed of in 2013 by Tyco, the responsible party. Wisconsin Public Service mechanically removed, treated and disposed of 15,000 cubic yards of oil-coated sediment.

A Great Lakes Legacy Act project resulted in an additional 36,000 cubic yards of arsenic impacted sediments removed from the river.

Invasive species and restoration

• Invasive buckthorn and honeysuckle were removed from 15.4 acres of island habitat to improve the natural regeneration of native trees used for nesting, and maintain a significant heron and egret rookery in the AOC.
• US Army Corps of Engineers continues to improve vegetation on Strawberry, Boom and Blueberry Islands.
• Eagle Creek Hydroelectric completed downstream fish passage at Park Mill Dam and safe upstream fish passage (lift) at Menominee dam in April 2015.  Eagle Creek Hydroelectric is designing downstream fish passage at the Menominee Dam for adult and juvenile sturgeon.
