Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP)

Finding Information from the Landfill Methane Outreach Program

LMOP strives to provide quick and easy access to many types of information about landfill gas (LFG) and LFG energy projects. The resources listed below contain the information that most visitors are seeking. If you need additional help, please Contact Us and submit a request for information or technical assistance.

Data for LFG Energy Projects or Landfills

Stakeholders are often interested in the number of LFG energy projects currently operating in the United States and their details (e.g., project size, end user of electricity or LFG, type of energy conversion equipment). Other entities may seek technical data for the landfills themselves, e.g., amount of waste deposited, open and closure years, design capacity. LMOP provides Excel files of select data for viewing or download, and two map versions to display the data.

Frequent Questions

Answers to many questions frequently asked by LFG industry stakeholders and other visitors are available directly from this page. The FAQs are grouped into several categories to help you find answers.

Project Development Handbook (PDH)

The handbook provides LFG energy project development guidance and is a valuable resource for landfill owners, energy service providers, corporate energy end users, state agencies, local governments, and communities. Individual chapters describe the basics of LFG energy, gas modeling, technology options, economic analysis and financing, contract and permitting considerations, and selection of project partners.

Resources for LMOP Partners

LMOP Partners can access additional resources, including posters and flyers, PowerPoint presentation templates, and the LMOP logo.
