Lead

Renovation, Repair and Painting Program: Realtors

Homes built before 1978 are much more likely to have lead-based paint. To protect families from exposure to harmful lead dust from lead-based paint, EPA requires that firms performing renovation, repair, and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes have their firm certified by EPA (or an EPA authorized state), use certified renovators who are trained by EPA-approved training providers and follow lead-safe work practices.

As a real estate agent, you play an important role in protecting the health of families purchasing and moving into homes. If your buyer or seller is considering renovations or repairs on their pre-1978 home, you should recommend that they hire a lead-safe certified renovator.
