International Cooperation

Memorandum of Understanding with the Peace Corps

EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy and Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet signed a new Memorandum of Understanding for our continued cooperation. (August 2016)

Since 2010, EPA has partnered with the Peace Corps to advance our international work at the community level, and to advance environmental protection around the world. Our most recent five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was renewed in August 2016.

As part of our collaboration:

  • EPA has provided technical input on Peace Corps training materials and environmental programs, such as training packages and handbooks on clean cookstoves, environmental education, pesticides, solid waste and climate change.
  • Peace Corps Volunteers become involved in ongoing EPA programs by attending EPA workshops and sharing information with local groups.  This has helped further environmental protection efforts in international communities of shared concern, such as in Jamaica, Panama, Costa Rica, Uganda, Kenya, Burkina Faso and Morocco.
