Dark Past, Bright Future: Environmental Cooperation in Central and Eastern Europe and the New Independent States (EPA 160-K-98-002)

This document recounts some of the formidable environmental problems faced by Central and Eastern Europe and the New Independent States in 1989, and the ways in which EPA helped meet these challenges. In the process, EPA contributed to the region's recovery and its goal of sustainable development, as well as to the strengthening of new democratic institutions.
