25 Years of Regional Environmental Cooperation

Hungarian President Janos Ader meets with EPA Acting Assistant Administrator Lek Kadeli, former EPA Administrator William Reilly, and U.S. Ambassador to Hungary Colleen Bell and others at the REC 25th Anniversary Ministerial.

The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) was established in 1990 by EPA on behalf of the United States, Hungary and the European Commission, at the initiative of then-U.S. President George H.W. Bush.

In honor of the 25th anniversary of the Regional Environmental Center (CEC) for Central and Eastern Europe, we've created a timeline to show some of the milestones on its journey. Most of the projects listed in the timeline were implemented with financial support from EPA.
