Hazardous Waste Cleanup: Le Jo Enterprises Incorporated in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania

On this page:

Cleanup Status

The final decision of Complete without Controls became effective October 30, 2013 after a 30-day public comment period.  No further action is required to make the Le-Jo Enterprises property suitable for any type of land use.

An Environmental Indicator (EI) inspection was conducted in September 2005 to assist in determining whether human exposures and migration of contaminated groundwater are under control at this facility.  As a result of a site visit in May 2010, both EIs were determined to be under control, as there were no significant human exposures to low levels of potentially remaining soil contamination at the facility, and groundwater was not expected to be contaminated by the facility.  EPA performed a sampling event in the vicinity of the facility’s former above-ground storage tank farm in August 2013 that showed no contamination in soil or groundwater above levels considered protective of unrestricted use.

Contaminants at this Facility

Primary contaminants at the facility include solvents that were used as chemical feedstocks.  Several small spills occurred at the facility over time, the majority of which were cleaned up immediately upon discovery.  Results from a focused soil and groundwater sampling performed by EPA in August 2013 suggest that no contamination above protective levels remains at the facility.
