Cleanup Status
In January 2012, respectively, EPA determined that the Human Health Exposures Under Control and the Migration of Contaminated Groundwater Environmental Indicators had been met. On February 28, 2012, EPA completed corrective action which indicated that there are no unaddressed releases of hazardous waste or hazardous constituents from the Facility. Based on that assessment, EPA stated that no further investigation or cleanup is required, and that its proposed decision is protective of human health and the environment and that no further corrective action or land use controls are necessary at this time.

The Facility was constructed in 1980 and operates as a pharmaceutical research and development facility. Prior to 1980 the property was agricultural land. Prior to January 2012, the Facility was known as Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development. While the facility was operated by McNeil Pharmaceutical (later referred to as Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical); however, the facility was always owned by the parent company, Johnson & Johnson PRD.
The Facility operates as a large quantity generator of hazardous waste. Waste solvents are accumulated in satellite storage areas located inside of the laboratories. The waste is taken to a storage area (inside Building 41) twice a week, where it is stored until it is transported off-site for disposal. Process water is sent through a equalization/neutralization unit prior to discharge to the Ambler Wastewater Treatment Plant. The discharge is permitted through the Borough of Ambler.

There are no unaddressed releases of hazardous waste or hazardous constituents from the Facility and that no further corrective action or land use controls are necessary at this time.
