Cleanup Status
Two key environmental indicators: (1) current human exposures and (2) migration of contaminated groundwater were determined to be under controlled in August 2015 and no any unacceptable risk to human health and/or the environment is ongoing at the facility.
Site Description
This 25-acre facility manufactures industrial and hospital sterilizers, loading car equipment and other equipment used in the health care industry. All manufacturing operations were performed inside the facility. American Sterilizer Company owned and operated the facility until May 13, 1996. From May 13, 1996 until 2007, Steris Corporation was the owner and operator of the facility. The Facility ceased operations in 2007. The property was purchased by Erie Commerce LLC in 2008 and has been redeveloped to nonresidential area.
Contaminants at this Facility
While there were solid waste management units at the facility containing hazardous waste and there was an oil spill in 1990s, contaminated soil was removed and there are no unaddressed environmental risks at the site.

The need for Institutional Controls is yet to be determined.

Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Corrective Action activities at this facility have been conducted under the direction of EPA Region 3.
